Color in Your Life

Tips from the Pros

by Victoria Sanchez, ASID

Moving into fall is always invigorating: it brings crisp days and cool evenings at home with a fire and a cocktail. Although we have found ourselves relatively housebound these last several months, perhaps there are still a few home improvement projects on your list.  A fresh coat of paint always does wonders, and this year more than ever, the trending colors are calming, relaxing ones that evoke a feeling of nature. Here are four to consider.

A bright blue color
Benjamin Moore's "Electric Blue"
A moss green color
Behr's "Back to Nature"

Benjamin Moore’s Electric Blue looks like a Santa Fe sky, and although you may not want a super-energetic color on all four walls, it’s certainly perfect for exterior doors and window trim, or even kitchen cabinets.

Behr’s Back to Nature is a soft green that anyone could live with. Calming for a home office or a bedroom, it’s reminiscent of the soft greens of pine trees at the ski resort.

A grayish-brown color
Sherwin Williams' "Modern Gray"
An off white color
Farrow & Ball's "Snow White"

While I think that grays have seen their heyday, Sherwin Williams’ Modern Gray is a gray that can read taupe, depending on the light.

A new shade from one of my favorite sources is UK-based Farrow & Ball’s Snow White. It provides an essential white that’s perfect when you want calm walls and prefer to add color elsewhere in the room.
