Official SWAIA Indian Market Events
August 22: Best of Show and Preview Events
Be there when judges unveil the nine classification winners, along with the 2008 Best of Show. Doors open at 4: 30 pm with only 100 tickets
available; $200 each for SWAIA members at Supporter/Turquoise levels or above. The event is followed by the Sneak Preview, from 5:30 to 7:30, and the General Preview, from 7:30 to 9:00, open to SWAIA members only. Memberships areavailable at the door or in advance; held at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe, 1615 Paseo de Peralta.

August 23–24: Indian Market
The 87th Annual SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market officially opens Saturday, August 23 at 7 am with more than 1,000 Native American artists displaying pottery, photography, beadwork, paintings, weavings, basketry, jewelry, sculpture, and more. Native food vendors offer a variety of indigenous and Southwestern foods. Nonprofit groups will have informational booths supporting Native cultures and communities. Saturday at noon on the Plaza stage, SWAIA hosts a special awards presentation for the Lifetime Achievement, Povika, and Fellowship recipients. Saturday 7–5, Sunday 8–5, free, on the Plaza and its surrounding streets.

August 22–23: Vanessie Restaurant

August 23: Auction Gala
Attend the most glamorous evening of Indian Market weekend. Market artists donate one-of-a-kind pieces for this fund-raising auction and seated dinner. Among the pieces is the original poster artwork by Cochiti painter Mateo Romero. Tickets are sold in advance only. Events begin at 5 pm, at La Fonda hotel, 100 E San Francisco. August 24: Native American Clothing Contest
Gather at the Plaza stage from 9 am to noon on Sunday as families from across the country display some of the finest designed and constructed traditional and contemporary clothing.

August 21–24: Native Cinema Showcase
The National Museum of the American Indian and the Center for Contemporary Arts, in conjunction with SWAIA, present the eighth annual Native Cinema Showcase, with screenings at CCA and at Cathedral Park. Info: 505-982-1338; ccasantafe.org

August 23–24: Native Roots and Rhythms
Celebrate indigenous music, dance, storytelling, and comedy—all showcased on the Plaza stage Saturday and Sunday, as SWAIA partners with the Native Roots and Rhythms Festival.
