Last Bite

After a particularly exhausting year, politically and economically, aren’t we all ready to relax and enjoy the holidays? We deserve it, and all of us must fight the temptation to let the latest global and national dramas ruin the fun this time of year is designed to give us. If you’re tightening your belt while writing your gift list, think about taking the time to handcraft some of your presents, edible or otherwise. Concerned about the fuel crunch? Buy locally. When the cold winds blow, stop and count your blessings, and don’t forget those who are less fortunate than you, no matter where you sit in the personal-wealth pecking order. Get together with family and friends and stick your nose up at the talking heads who prefer to focus on the glass half empty rather than the glass half full.

Some folks say Santa Fe has a false economy, and that may be partially true. We are lucky enough to have a thriving tourist industry and a great image worldwide as a must-visit destination. In the next year, I invite you to travel here and let us show you what is so special about the Land of Enchantment and Santa Fe, the city I call “Deliciously Different.” If you live here, remind your friends and family to come ski, eat, and explore our unique art and history. This season I hope your glass is at least half full of a rich and tasty eggnog or a brilliant Champagne. And whatever you put on your holiday table, make it with love and care—and I promise all your wishes will come true. My prediction for 2009? “A chicken in every pot!”
